Things you buy through our links may earn New York a commission. The natty gray suit he wore was a prototype from the forthcoming Ryan Seacrest Distinction line of menswear. This tableau notwithstanding, Seacrest, who will turn 40 in December, is beginning to gesture toward balance in his life.
Shortly after he would get a dog, a black Lab named Georgia, as a self-conscious step toward domestication. He had joined something called the Napa Valley Reserve, which bottles private-label wine for him, and at Bouchon, Ann Colgin, a prominent Napa winemaker with whom Seacrest is friendly, stopped by the table. We continued talking—he told me he was looking forward to an upcoming vacation to Italy—and at one point I glanced at my notes. Seacrest saw an opening. Five or ten? I just like to stay on track.
Besides his daily drive-time L. But not every DJ transfers that worldview to the rest of his life. Who does that? There are none of the rough patches that give a person dimension. The way he sleeps. The three-item rule in the car. Being afraid of noises on the roof. A body pillow. A wedge pillow. He has lapsed into none of the public assholery that afflicts most celebrities at one point or another.
His bachelordom, generally nonpublic dating life, and transparency about getting manicures have made him the regular target of late-show gay jokes, but even these seem driven at least partly by an ambient hunger for there to be something, anything, please, about Seacrest that is not as it seems.

On the day we spoke to him, Seacrest had already recorded both shows and then flew to Los Angeles before jumping on the phone to talk about the clothes he wears while hustling his way through his half-dozen jobs. About those clothes: Seacrest also dresses American men in Distinction, his three-year-old clothing line sold exclusively at Macy's.
And don't forget his line of skincare, Polished, made in partnership with his Beverly Hills dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer. With this much to do, we figured the guy might have some style and grooming tricks up his sleeve. Seacrest is a veritable media machine, so he's got a morning routine that helps him stay ahead of any curveballs.
Before he gets to the part of his day that requires an affable smile and a boundless spring in his step, Seacrest prepares. I'll sit and have a cup of tea, cup of coffee, or a cup of lemon water depending on my mood, get dressed, and pack my backpack. Now that I live in New York I have to have my backpack all the time—you never know when you're gonna get a chance to do something or be stuck in a certain part of town. So, I roll out with my backpack and my lunch box and head over to ABC.
Seacrest credits his fashion fluency to the stylists, tailors, and designers he's worked with in the 15 years since American Idol first aired.
