The engineers have special dive suits custom designed with Kevlar to give them the underwater mobility they need when they work.
First among the shooter class are the mini-shooters that shoot burst of water into the air feet high. Each shot is followed by a crack of compressed air that is released after each one, stopping the jet of water and producing mist at the base of the jet. The sound is easily mistaken as fireworks, but it is actually a byproduct from the creation of each water jet. Still more impressive are the super-shooters that produce jets of water feet high with a proportionally louder crack of compressed air after each shot.
For the grand finale of each song, there are 16 extreme-shooters that produce jets of water feet high with a thunderous boom at the end of each one. Powering these jets of water from the shooters cannot be done efficiently using pumps alone — that would require 60, HP when you combine the flow and pressure required.
Instead, each super-shooter has a reservoir of water in a foot tall tank, inches in diameter, connected at its base to a psi, gallon air receiver. Air is delivered by precisely controlled valves to fire the water into the air at precisely the right moment. After each shot the super-shooter tank has to be replenished, so they can only fire so frequently.
A compressor runs continuously during the show to replenish the psi air receivers. I imagine a great deal of engineering was required to control the water hammer associated with these super-shooters. Think of the racket created when you bleed air from your own faucet at home, and imagine that with gpm and psi behind it. Quite a remarkable achievement to say the least!
Complementing this vast array of oarsman and shooters is a fog system that operates at 2, psi and produces a fog that captures light and decorates the base of the display in a white cloud. There is nothing like seeing them in person. The Fountains of Bellagio were destined to romance your senses. Step back, or find a comfortable perch to sit, and watch against the backdrop of the Las Vegas lavender sky. Each performance is unique in expression and interpretation so no matter how many times you have seen the Fountains, they always have more in store to wow you with.
Fall in love with this unprecedented aquatic accomplishment. On weekends and holidays, the fountains display their magic every 30 minutes from noon to PM and every 15 minutes from PM to midnight. Fountain display is every 30 minutes from noon to PM Fountain display is every 15 minutes from PM to midnight. Note: Schedule may vary. The outdoor display is subject to cancellation due to weather. When thinking of the many romantic places in Paris or Rome, London or Madrid, fountains immediately come to mind.
He got his start in backstage work in the Army. A Desert Storm veteran by the time he left the military, Singer landed a job with a company that put him backstage at the famous Siegfried and Roy show at the Mirage. In , MGM moved Singer to the Bellagio, where crews had built a lake that had not yet been filled. Here, no day is typical. A hour shift might mean repairing equipment in the shop, chasing out wildlife or retrieving items lost or tossed — like the big catfish someone set free one time — in the water.
Under the 22 millions gallons of water known as Lake Como are four types of water shooting devices, each playing a big role in every Fountains of Bellagio production. The moving stream makes the water move like it is dancing. One of the oarsman in the lake packs the power to push gallons per minute. In the lake are mini-shooters, super-shooters and 16 extreme-shooters. Here's a breakdown of those components in the fountain:.
About half of the staff has been in place since the fountains were built, maintaining equipment that has been underwater for 19 years. When the water goes that high, it comes down as a mist. Water from the other canons comes down in column form, which the crew feels looks more dramatic. The show system also includes fog manifolds — structures that come out of the water with approximately 5, nozzles.
The lake had been open for a year before the ducks found it, and initially, crew members made the mistake of feeding them. When they realized they had 90 ducks, they saw their mistake and moved them off-site. The number of ducks is down to a manageable average of As far as Briggs knows, no duck has ever been launched from the lake by a shooter or hit by a column of water.
It takes about two minutes for shields rise out of the water, and the ducks seem to know to get out of the way then. WET Design conceived of, designed and built the attraction in two years. To meet the time frame, portions were subcontracted and less expensive materials were used.
